Inter-Religious Action Network of Washington County

Announcing the Nominations for the

IAN 2016 Emily Georges Gottfried Everyday Hero Award.

This award is given in memory of Emily Gottfried (1955-2013), an IAN council member who was a persistent advocate for human rights, interfaith dialogue, and feeding our hungry.  Emily dedicated her life to advancing justice, building community, and promoting interfaith understanding. She was committed to tikkun olam, the Jewish practice of repairing the world. She reached out to organize people of all faiths for the common good.  Emily's enthusiasm and gratitude for even a small contribution made a person want to be part of the team for change.

Therefore, each year at the IAN Washington County Martin Luther King Day Celebration, the Inter-Religious Action Network of Washington County presents the “Emily Georges Gottfried Everyday Hero Award” to a community member who makes a difference in Washington County. A commemorative plaque which includes each year's award recipient's name and organization(if any) is shown at each IAN event.
